The Political and security theme

The Euro-Mediterranean Charter :
The Euro-Mediterranean charter for peace and stability is the most important theme, as part of the political and security theme, which aims to establish an area of peace and stability and to lay the foundations for an effective political dialogue between the concerned countries.

Tunisia participation, in conjunction with the group of Arab countries in the Barcelona Process, in elaborating this charter, through the contribution presented by this group in 1998. In addition, Tunisia presented a document including certain amendments which it considered necessary to be incorporated within the final version, before submitting it to the official ministerial conference held in Marseilles in November 2000. The final version of the charter, which was supposed to be adopted during the conference, was not adopted due to the political conditions and the developments of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Fight against terrorism :
Numerous meetings of senior officials and experts have so far been held on the question of the fight against terrorism, as all countries are aware of the importance and necessity to enhance cooperation in this regard.

Tunisia took part in those meetings, and underlined the necessity of adopting a comprehensive and multi-sided approach, so that the Barcelona Process would adopt a code of ethics, as was the case for the Mediterranean forum.

Tunisia indeed constitutes a model in the field of fight against terrorism, for it has always been keen on adopting a comprehensive approach that takes into consideration all the dimensions of this question, not only the security dimension of it, and on tackling the root causes of this phenomenon such as poverty and marginalized.
